The Case of the Haunted Helmet

Article by Brent L. George

Investigators: Melissa, Brent, Jon, Wendy, and Daine, a local theoretical physicist who was in this instance invited to observe the investigation.
Article Disclaimer: This article deals with an object of historical significance that once belonged to an officer of the Third Reich. If discussion of Nazi Germany or the image of a swastika in any way offends you, you should not read this article. The S.P.I.R.I.T. team presents the evidence from this case from an objective and fact-based scientific point of view. Nothing else. The spirit we helped cross over was a confused soul who needed our help. He very likely died scared, alone, and confused – far from home, doing what his country told him he had to do.

The S.P.I.R.I.T. team was dispatched to the Folsom, CA home of an older couple.  Although the couple had experienced very little paranormal activity in their home, they had recently inherited an object of historical significance that seemed to have its own energy – to the point where the husband, Michael, acquired a K2 meter in order to test the object. The object in question was a World War II police helmet worn by an officer of the Third Reich.

Since the claims of paranormal activity were specific to the helmet, S.P.I.R.I.T.’s first task was to verify the authenticity of the helmet, and when it was manufactured. This is important because if the helmet was manufactured after 1945, it would not be authentic and would therefore not be of historical significance.  It is a sad truth that authentic artifacts from the Nazi Regime are considered highly collectible – anything collectible can and very often is reproduced. So we had to make sure we were dealing with the real McCoy here.

The helmet appeared to be from the correct time period; scratches on the helmet appeared to indicate that the Nazi insignia were original to the helmet, and the lining (what was left of it) appeared correct. The worn “Edel” stamp inside the helmet was the one thing more than anything else that established that the helmet was genuine and very likely saw combat use early in the war.

This is where the highest EMF readings were detected.

Helmet Marking

M1934 style helmet

Nazi Helmet Swastika

Issued between 1940 and 1943 to an officer of the Deutsche Polizei

The location of the markings on the helmet identify it as an authentic M1934 style helmet issued between1940 and 1943 to an officer of the Deutsche Polizei – the German Police. It is important to understand that the Deutsche Polizei were a military unit separate from the Heer (army) Luftwaffe (Air Force) or the Kriegsmarine (Navy). These three units formed the German Military, known as the Wehrmacht. The Deutsche Polizei were an elite fighting unit responsible for anything from fire control to crowd / civil unrest suppression, to internal investigations and guard duty for members of the German High Command. The Deutsche Polizei operated under the direct authority of the Nazi SS (ShutzStaffel, or Secret Police).

The “Edel” marking shows the helmet was manufactured by the Deutsche Edelstahl Company, which produced these helmets from 1934 to 1943. The markings on the helmet and the absence of the early “steel comb” that would run along the outside center of the helmet identify it as an Edelstahl helmet issued between 1940 and 1943. Interestingly, edelstahl also means “stainless steel” in German. The company’s name (translated) was the German Stainless Steel Company.

The Investigation

K2 meters consistently hit to “3” (the third light) or between 2.5 and 10 milligauss at the front of the helmet. The EDI Meter also hit to two lights on the helmet. The Trifield Meter, which is more sensitive than the K2 or EDI meters, and measures in microteslas  (1 microtesla = 10 volts / meter) hit to 100 microteslas on the front, center, and inside the helmet, essentially “pegging” the Trifield Meter. The meter was then set to filter out AC and DC electric current, radio waves, and microwaves, leaving unexplained electromagnetic energy as the only possibility that would even begin to account for these readings. Since the helmet is constructed solely of stainless steel, it is not and cannot be naturally magnetic by itself, leaving the cause of these readings as unexplained, or paranormal. Added to this, a glowing white orb is seen coming out of the helmet while the Trifield readings are being taken, and again flying behind the helmet as I conclude the readings, commenting, “That’s a haunted object, folks!”

Next, we conducted an SB11 Spirit Box session in the direct presence of the helmet. Almost immediately, we received the Spirit Box response, “Wie geht’s?” This is informal German for “How’s it going?” This alone constitutes proof of the paranormal – an intelligent response in German, while conducting a Spirit Box session in front of a suspected haunted Nazi helmet. It should be noted that the family is not of German heritage or descent, and there are no radio stations within a thousand miles of the investigation that broadcast in German. The SB11 Spirit Box response of “Wie geht’s” should be absolutely impossible.

Melissa and Wendy

Melissa and Wendy during the Spirit Box session.

We continued to receive responses in German to questions asked in German:

Investigator: “Der Zweiten WeldKrieg ist vorbei. Deutschland hat den Krieg verloren.” (The Second World War is over. Germany lost the war).

SB 11 Spirit Box: “Den Krieg – “  (The war…..)

Investigator:  “Waren Sie im Krieg getotet?”  (Were you killed in the war?)

SB11 Spirit Box: “Da.”

This response is interesting. “Da” is yes, in Russian. However, it is very close to the German word for yes, “Ja.”

A German spirit suddenly responding in Russian in this situation is not as inconsistent as one might think. On September 1st, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, formally opening the Second World War. On August 23, 1941, Hitler signed a non-aggression treaty with Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union at the time.  On June 22, 1942, Hitler broke that treaty and invaded the Soviet Union, infuriating Stalin. This decision on Germany’s part would prove to be one of several in a series of decisions that played a major role in turning the tide of war in the European Theater and bringing about the destruction of the Third Reich. When the Allies invaded Northern France at Normandy on June 6, 1944, Hitler had spread himself too thin, having mounted a ground war across the largest sovereign nation in the world geographically. Ultimately, the Third Reich could not sustain this level of control over Europe as the Allies pushed from the West and the Soviets pushed back from the East. Poland was thus a pivotal battleground both early and late in the war in the European Theater.  The SB11 Spirit Box  responding in Russian, combined with the date the helmet was manufactured as an M1934, places this soldier on the Russian front in 1942, where he most likely met his untimely death.

Investigator: “Wann wurden Sie getotet?” (When were you killed?)

SB11 Spirit Box: “Zwei n Fiertig.” (Forty – Two).

When we closed the Spirit Box session, We thanked the spirit for speaking with us. We received a final  “Tshcuss!” (So long!)

Based on this evidence and the investigation overall, the S.P.I.R.I.T. team feels confident in claiming that we spoke to the spirit of a deceased soldier of the Third Reich who died on the Russian front some time after June 22, 1942. The soldier was very pleasant and seemed genuinely pleased to be given a chance to tell his story. He was likely a young man in his early twenties – he knew little of the world that he died for. It should be reiterated here that even though he fought for one of the most destructive political regimes that the world has ever seen, he himself was just a human soul who found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time in history. This sad case was one that affected every team member in different ways. The evidence gathered in the case was, in our humble opinion, phenomenal, and difficult to discount as anything but concrete proof of the afterlife.

Melissa felt that he was reluctant to cross over for fear of punishment for his actions during the war as a soldier. These acts were very likely beyond terrible, and may have included killing civilians. We assured him (in German) that he would be welcome on the other side, that whatever acts he committed would be reviewed in the light of the fact that he did these things under military orders during the worst military conflict of the century. Ultimately, we felt the spirit was ready to cross over.

After meditating and crossing the spirit over, Melissa conducted a cleansing of both the home and the helmet, with energy work and holy water. After the cleansing, the S.P.I.R.I.T. team noted that the helmet was still giving off EMF readings, but at dramatically reduced levels.

The team also completed a walkthrough of the entire home, to ensure that the helmet was the only thing in the home that was haunted. In the upstairs Master Bedroom, Melissa picked up on the homeowner’s deceased mother, and felt constricted in the throat and chest. Indeed, the occupant’s mother had died of lung disease. Melissa also felt an intense male energy in the Master Bedroom closet – this turned out to be the living energy of the homeowner.

Case Closed

Classification: Haunted Object / Spirit Attachment to a Physical Object

UPDATE: As of this writing, January 21, 2018, the helmet continues to cause EMF meters to go off at reduced levels.

A worried Elisa

The S.P.I.R.I.T. team was asked to assist Ryan Privee, a fellow paranormal investigator from Modesto, CA, with a negative entity case involving the apartment home of Elisa, in Stockton, CA. Elisa has been complaining of odd noises in the apartment, and a feeling of foreboding and negativity in the home.

The Investigation

A baseline K2 sweep showed unexplained EMF hits in the hallway and in the daughter’s bedroom. Ryan’s static electricity devices showed strong static hits in the master bedroom, along with orb captures with still photography.

In the daughter’s room, a defiant voice was captured on the SB11 Spirit Box, claiming to be “Satan” and “Evil.” When team members told the entity it would be cleaned out, the SB11 response was “try it.”

Daughter’s room

This type of entity is what we often refer to as a “Huffer and Puffer.” The entity puts on a strong, fearful front, in hopes of scaring the investigators away. When it comes to the actual cleansing, however, the entity proves to be relatively easy to cleanse out with S.P.I.R.I.T. members’ tried and tested methods and abilities.

The Cleansing

The home was cleansed using holy water, white sage, and Palo Santo Wood. The entity was banned from the apartment easily, proving itself to not be demonic in any way, as actual demonic cases are very dangerous and tough to deal with, and usually take more than one visit by team members. This entity simply tried to build itself up to be something it was not.

Melissa felt that the entity, a lost, angry, and defiant human soul, was seeking out demonic forces on the other side, and in time, could well have become a very negative and serious haunting in this apartment home. It is always best to “nip it in the bud” with such cases, before a more serious situation builds up.

Spirit Box Session

Conclusion:  Probable deceased human / previous tenant with dark intent but little power or energy, indication the spirit may not have been dead for very long.

Note:

The morning after this investigation, the client reported raw meat being draped on her car outside. This appears to have been an attack by neighbors in another apartment in the building who noticed the investigation taking place, and did not approve of their neighbor engaging in the paranormal in any way. However, the client has reported that all paranormal activity in her house has stopped.

The House Hopping Ghost of Old Reno

Reno, Nevada
05/21/2016

The S.P.I.R.I.T. team received an emergency e-mail from a family in the older section of Reno, Nevada, for an immediate investigation and cleansing, if at all possible. The e-mail came in late in the week, and after talking with the clients, the decision was made to go that Saturday.

Reno is 120 miles from S.P.I.R.I.T. home base. The weather forecast for the weekend over the Sierra Nevada was clearing (after a mid-week late season snow storm had moved over the mountains) and partly cloudy and snow flurries. The actual weather turned out to be a little closer to “Snowing hard on Donner Pass – Carry Chains.” We pressed on through the storm and reached Reno safely at 4 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Claims of Paranormal Activity:

The clients claim the mother is having headaches and nightmares, they feel constantly watched, there are unexplained noises at night, objects in the kitchen have moved by themselves, and some of the family members have been touched and pinched. One odd thing about this case was that the family claims that the activity is taking place not only in the mother’s upstairs apartment, but also in the daughter’s home nearby, and the activity had originally begun in the mother’s previous apartment across the street from her current apartment.

The Investigation:

S.P.I.R.I.T. members set about doing a base level K2 Meter sweep of the mother’s upstairs apartment, and discovered in her bedroom a clock radio that was pegging the K2 meter. This could explain the mother’s headaches and nightmares – it is strongly inadvisable to have strong electromagnetic fields near your head while you sleep (or at any time for any duration). However, this did not account for the other paranormal claims the family had been experiencing.

Photography in the home captured one orb in the kitchen:

While Melissa was taking video on her smart phone near the back bathroom of the upstairs apartment, an unexplained anomaly was captured on still photography. Note that that the image coming out of the phone cannot be a flash bounce or light reflection, because the anomaly extends past the edges of the phone into mid-air. If it was a light reflection or flash bounce, it would extend onto the wall in front of Melissa, and would cause glare in the mirror, neither of which is the case here. The anomaly is not a blur, because neither Melissa’s phone, hand, nor anything else in the photograph are blurred. The photograph appears to be paranormal in nature.

An SB11 Spirit Box session in the upstairs apartment produced multiple responses, and appeared to be a defiant male voice. When asked if he was ready to be “cleansed out of this space” we received strong Class A responses “By You?” and “My House.” The voice then told Melissa, “Try it, bitch.” These responses are well beyond what could be considered coincidence.

In conversing with the spirit via the SB11 Spirit Box, Melissa, Wendy, and Kara were able to empath the trapped spirit of a man who had been killed by police in front of an adjacent property approximately 10 years previously, during a standoff with police that arose from a domestic violence call. It was strongly felt by S.P.I.R.I.T. members that this spirit had recently attached itself to the family’s mother before she had moved into the current apartment, seeing her as an easy mark, and had been torturing the family ever since.

The Cleansing:

Full cleansing of both the upstairs apartment and the daughter’s nearby home were conducted, using sage, Holy Water and Palo Santo wood. The spirit of the man killed on the street by police was strongly encouraged to move on, with S.P.I.R.I.T. empaths Melissa, Wendy and Kara showing him the light that  would allow him to cross over.

As of the date of this report, no further paranormal activity has been reported in either the mother’s or the daughter’s home.

A Familial Haunting

Article by Brent L. George
Sacramento, CA – Arden Neighborhood
February 20, 2016

The S.P.I.R.I.T. team was called to an apartment home to assist an older couple who claimed they feel watched in the apartment, have heard disembodied voices, seen shadow movement, and had items fall suddenly out of their cupboards and linen closet.

An initial interview with the couple revealed that both occupants have lost loved ones unexpectedly. In particular, the woman had lost her brother in a foreign country in a violent incident when they were young. In the front office of the home were several pictures of her brother, arranged together on the wall.

The Investigation:

Flash photography captured several small, ambient-light only, and ambiguous orbs on the patio and throughout the apartment. However, the orbs are still interesting as circumstantial paranormal evidence, because the home was immaculately clean and free of dust.

arden1_fotorarden2_fotorarden3_fotor

No EVPs were captured in the home; however, the teams E.D. I. Meter’s (measures electromagnetic energy, temperature, and vibrations) blue EMF indicator lights lit up to full brightness (6 milligaus) during the EVP session, indicating the presence of a strong magnetic field.

arden4_fotor

Note that the E.D.I. Meter was on top of a computer printer that could cause a false EMF reading if switched on – however, the printer was switched off and the EMF hit on the E.D.I. meter could not be debunked by K2 meters.

Next, the team conducted a spirit box session in the front office using the SB 11 Spirit Box. Again, there was no response, but sporadic K2 hits. When the female occupant of the home spoke in Spanish during the spirit box session, she received a clear SB11 response in her brother’s voice, in Spanish, saying that he was all right. It was the first time she had heard her brother’s voice in 47 years.

At this point, the occupant understandably experienced a very emotional response, and the decision was made to shut off all recording equipment immediately and terminate the investigation, out of respect for the occupants and the family.

As there was no evidence of any negative energy, and the group members all felt strongly that the apartment contained only familial spirits who were watching over the occupants, no cleansing was requested or performed.

Of all of the cases the S.P.I.R.I.T. team encounters, familial hauntings that are beneficial and in no way negative make up the bulk of them. Most paranormal cases fall into this category, often termed “Casper” hauntings. Heavily negative and / or demonic cases do happen, and the S.P.I.R.I.T. team is equipped to deal with such cases, but one should keep in mind that those types of cases are the exception rather than the rule.

Conclusion: The SB11 hit in the brother’s voice in particular suggests that he is watching over his sister in her twilight years.

Case Closed.

Classification: Probable benign familial haunting.
